Materials needed:
18-Boardering
the Norm Cardboard frames
62 large barrel beads- (16mm bead 10mm hole)
12-36" 5/8" dowel rods
12- 1/4" axle caps *1 package of 13
Glue gun
One can each of Krylon Make it Suede in Brushed
Sienna and Forest Glen, two cans of Make it Stone
textured Paint in Charcoal Sand
1. Prep of
Frames: Paint one side of frame and edges in rust. Put frames
back into original packaging and spray the other
side with green. Spray the dowels in green as well.
Cover both sides of frames and dowels with a light
spraying of the faux stone.
If desired, reverse center squares of each for more
visual interest. Use pictures or pull squares out
completely.
2. Gluing
Beads: Before gluing, scratch a bit of the surface paint
off and sand down back of bead. Glue beads on 1.25"
in from the side edge and glued 1/8" below
the top edge. Tip: Make a glue guide by taking a
center square and gluing 2 beads per dimensions
above. ( refer to fig.2). When gluing beads, run
a length of the rod through the beads to make sure
beads are at correct angle. Let glue dry for a minute,
then remove rod.
Glue on 4 beads for each frame, except for the 8
frames on the outside edges. They will only have
two each. On the outer edge, the dowels get glued
directly onto the edges of frames. (refer to Fig.
3)
3. Prep of
Dowels: Cut 4 dowels into 31.5" lengths with regular
scissors. Run blades around mark, place scored end
over tables edge and snap dowel. Sand off bottom.
Dowels will be joined during assembly with beads.
Dowels can be joined with a small pin, by drilling
a hole and using a headless screw. This should be
done prior to painting. The bead method is for those
who don't wish to use tools.
4. Assembly
of Divider: Assemble the divider
by laying out all the pieces in the pattern they
will be connected (refer to diagram 2 for pattern).
Alternate columns of colors or checkerboard colors
as desired. Start with the outside edges, glue dowels
together with bead in the middle and one on both
ends. Glue the dowel/bead rod directly onto outside
edge of frames. Go to the next column, insert the
rods through the beads, one from the top of the
column, one from the bottom. Join the 2 dowels by
inserting both ends into a barrel bead filled with
glue. Continue on with next 3 columns, then finish
outer edge like other frames.
Glue on end caps to prevent rods from pulling through.
When all the rods have been attached, let glue set
for at least one hour. Then raise the divider and
flex the joints. Panels can rotate forward or backward
depending on how you need divider to wrap.
