Cardboard
Gone Nuts?
Cardboard is not what it used to be.
In fact, it really isn't called cardboard when an adventurous,
young company called Mixed Nuts gets involved. It's called
cardboard, and it's taking on some fun, nutty forms as Mixed
Nuts breaks tradition with their line of cardboard products
called CrazyCardboard.
The premiere line explores exciting new dimensions from
a little-known industrial material that moves us beyond
our concept of standard cardboard.
Produced from 5/8" thick, triple-layered,
cardboard, kraftablesTM are incredibly durable, yet very lightweight. The child-sized
"Rock Me" Rocker, suitable for ages 3-8, is recommended
for up to 100 pounds, yet it only weighs 4 pounds! CrazyCardboard
are available in a variety of
pre-cut, ready-to-decorate shapes ranging from funky, chunky
photo frames to fantastic FUNctional Furniture to distinctive
home accents.
CrazyCardboard
can be decorated with just about
anything -- paints, stickers, rubber stamps, collage, fabrics
and ribbons, even woodburning!
Designed with the crafter in mind, CrazyCardboard
are packaged flat and unassembled, allowing each piece to
be decorated in its flat form. No tricky corners, curves
or interiors to hinder the creativity. There's no measuring,
cutting, sanding or sealing needed to prepare CrazyCardboard.
Ready to decorate right out of the package, they're perfect
as the gift to give, or the gift to make!
Retail prices range from $1.99 for the
"Boardering the Norm" photo frame up to $79.99
for the "Royal Assets" adult throne. There are
kraftablesTM for every budget.
CrazyCardboard offer an enticing
concept to workshops or fundraisers -- they bring fun and
function to the event. Participants are amazed at how easy
it is to create an artistic and beautiful item and even
more thrilled with the functionality of their creation!
Decorating the rockers or thrones becomes an incredible
parent/child workshop that fulfills parents' never-ending
search for that fun, educational, creative and useful project.
As in all arts and crafts projects, these workshops promote
a positive sense-of-self through the creative process. Kids
beam with pride as they decorate, assemble and then use
their personally adorned chair!

"chair"ish the thoughts. CrazyCardboard cardboard chairs appear

A spectacular "Royal Assets"
throne was center stage at a recent Starbright Foundation
event. The throne is a three-dimensional recreation of Tomie
dePaola's illustration for the foundation's celebrity re-write
of "The Emperor's New Clothes." John Lithgow,
television personality and author of the Emperor's section
of the book, recited his Emperor's statement of truth while
seated upon the magnificent throne.
The throne has a dimensional face made
from clay, which resembles talk-show host and author of
the throne section of the book, Rosie O'Donnell. A stuffed,
velvet covered seat, evening gloves for arms and hand sewn
birds are just a few of the accessories that made this throne
a show-stopper.
Storyopolis of Los Angeles, a children's
book store, children's illustrators' art gallery, and host
of this celebrity event, has the Emperor's throne on display
for the public.
At the "Creating for Life"
fundraising auction at the ACCI (American Craft and Creative
Industries) 1998 Trade Show, a jeweled and fur-seated throne
was auctioned off for over $1,000.
In Nashville, Tennessee, another "Royal
Assets" throne has been created for a fundraising event
to support the "Kids on the Block" Foundation.
Their "chair"ish the kids theme, invited local
artists to create and donate a chair to be auctioned off
to the public. Several other CrazyCardboard FUNctional
furniture pieces appeared at this event, as local artists
use them as their canvas of choice.
All over the country, there are more
and more Rocking Chair Rampage workshops taking place. These
fundraisers offer kids and adults a fun day of decorating
their own rocking chair while benefiting a worthy cause.
At a recent workshop sponsored by Stone
Container, Delta Products and Mixed Nuts, children at the
Valley Children's Hospital of Fresno, California, were able
to decorate rocking chairs in spite of their various hospital
equipment. There was a smile on every face (and some paint
as well)!
A basic foundation of the Mixed Nuts'
mission statement is to give back to the community whenever
possible. They are proud to see their products and designs
achieve this goal.
