RAISED
DRUM
Materials:
- Ring-a-ding-ding
By
#30047.
- Brown
grocery bag.
- 10-12
colored jumbo craft sticks.
- Yarn,
macramé cording, or twine in choice
of color.
- Pony
beads in choice of color.
- Two
barrel beads in choice of color.
- Thick
craft glue.
- Pencil,
scissors, ruler, hole punch, and masking
tape.
Instructions:
1.
Get started. Cut open bag; discard bottom.
Lay bag flat. Four top of drum, trace cardboard
circle on one side of bag. Draw an outline
around traced circle approximately 2 1/2"
wider than traced circle; cut along outline.
Set aside.
2.
Make the drum sides. Cut two 7" x 12" rectangles
from remainder of bag. With blank side of
paper facing out, glue one long side of each
rectangle onto outside edge of circle so edges
of paper are even with top of circle and so
paper edges overlap; glue seams together.
Measure and mark several 1" markings from
bottom edge of drum. Fold along marked lines;
glue to inside of drum. Glue one craft stick
over each seam so ends of craft sticks are
even with top. Glue remaining craft sticks
in same manner spacing each evenly apart.
(Note: If colored craft sticks are not available
use paint or marker to color as desired.)
3.
Decorate the sides of drum. See figure 1.
Punch three holes between each craft stick
in a triangle shape so center hole is 3/8"
from bottom edge and other two holes are 1
1/4" from bottom edge and approximately 1
3/4" apart. Cut a 48" length from yarn. Knot
one end of yarn. Wrap masking tape around
other end. See Figure 2. Thread taped yarn
end from inside to outside of bottom left
hole; pull up yarn. Thread on one pony bead.
Going over edge of drum, thread yarn from
inside to outside of center hole threading
through pony bead in same direction. Thread
yard end from outside to inside of bottom
right hole. Continue same for remaining holes.
4.
Finish up. Center and place top of drum over
cardboard circle. Cut a 70" length from yarn.
See photo. Center and wrap yarn around side
of drum top twice; tie in a knot securing
drum top in place. Thread four pony beads
and one barrel bead onto each yarn end. Knot
ends. Apply glue to knots to secure.
DREAM
CATCHER
Materials:
- Ring-a-ding-ding
By
#30047.
- Yarn,
macramé cording, or twine in choice
of color.
- Pony
beads and barrel beads in choice of color.
- Feathers
in choice of color
- Pencil,
scissors, and ruler.
Instructions:
Cut
a 4 foot length from yarn. (Note: More yarn
may be needed to complete project.) Tie one
yarn end to ring leaving a 6" length; fold
length down 2" and knot for hanging loop.
See Figure 1. Wrap yarn over top of ring,
around to back, and through hole. In same
manner, repeat "stitch" around ring spacing
each stitch approximately 1 1/2" 2" apart.
See figure 2. For second row and subsequent
rows, continue same stitch, wrapping loops
around center of each first stitch. Pull each
stitch tight. (Note: As each row is completed
yarn will bend towards center slightly, forming
a diamond shape. Spider web should begin to
form.) Continue stitch towards center. (Note:
Eventually, stitches become so small it becomes
difficult to pass yarn through.) Make sure
to leave a hole in center of dream catcher.
To end stitching, stitch twice in same place,
forming a knot; pull tight. Cut three 5" lengths
from yarn. See photo. Tie one end of each
length to dream catcher where desired. Thread
pony and barrel beads onto ends of each length.
Knot ends tying feather into knot.
